I forgot to mention last week that our PotW is now included in Wowhead's new blog! Wowhead is one of our sister sites, and it is a great source of information for items, npcs, spells, etc. Check out its database and the rest of the blog at http://www.wowhead.com/

Ara Broker XP:

This is a LibDataBroker plugin to display an ASCII representation of your experience bar. You can change which characters to use for the bar (could do ******* or >>>>>> or ~-~-~-~-~-~- even), how many times to repeat the pattern (how long the bar is), and what colors to use. Options are controlled in the lua file, but it should be fairly easy to customize it to your liking, and there are explanations on the addon's download page. Since this is just an LDB plugin, you will need a display to show it in. For more information on LibDataBroker, see this PotW.

To read more about it and download the addon, see here.

This is a list of your whisper history, both incoming and outgoing. It could be very helpful for raid leaders, selling your professions in SW, or just if you get a lot of whispers in general. The window can be set to show from 3-10 names, and the names are colored differently depending on whether the message was incoming or outgoing. You can sort the names in two different ways, and you can also save names between sessions (helpful if you need to reload your UI or get disconnected). Left-clicking a name allows you to whisper that person, and right-clicking a name will perform a /who.

Well, the expansion is here and the servers are flooded. How many of you have created Death Knights? And how many of you are searching for addons to use with them? ;) There have been several cool Death Knight mods created already - check out our Death Knight download section. Here are a few that were updated this week:

ComeHere:

Any Death Knight will tell you that Death Grip is one of the best spells ever. And who *isn't* reminded of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat when you use it? Well, tinyu put together a mod that plays audio files of Scorpion saying "Come here!" and "Get over here!" whenever your Death Knight uses the Death Grip ability. Now, the voice doesn't have to be in your head (and who wants voices in their heads?)

For more information and to download the addon, see its download page.

Magic Runes:

This is a rune cooldown display addon. You can either supplement the default rune display with it, or replace it all together. There are many options for how to display it, including orientation (horizontal or vertical), font, bar texture, whether the bars are ordered by time or rune type, whether you want the bars only, icons only, or both, etc. The addon is still in development, so more features are in the works as well. If you have suggestions or come across any bugs, then let its author know what you would like to see from the addon.

To read more and try it yourself, see here.

RuneWatch:

This addon uses custom graphics to display your runic power, your runes' cooldowns, and it also tracks diseases on your target. There are several different skins included, as well as a compact version. There is an option to use custom or default rune icons as well. This mod is also still currently in development, and more features are planned and added with each version. You can be involved in the feature suggestion process!

Read more about it and download it here.
Have tons of spells, but not enough bar space? Wish you could have buttons for all of your mounts/pets? Select can help with this. Create a macro with one of the /select commands and add it to your bars. Right-clicking the macro's button opens a menu with all items/spells that falls into the category assigned that macro. Click one of the items/spells to move it to the main button, where you can then left-click it to use it. Due to the nature of secure frames and such, you cannot change spells/items during combat. Because of this, some people may find limited use for Select, and Gello mainly wrote it as a proof of concept. But I found it neat and interesting, and thought I'd share. :)

One change in the 3.0.2 patch, was that the combat log now returns how much damage was absorbed by a shield spell cast upon you. While there have been addons in the past that tried to monitor shield strength, they weren't always accurate, and they had to do all of the work themselves, as the game never showed the information needed by the addon. Also, the last one I knew of was abandoned and was no longer working. Shieldmonitor is a new mod that uses this new feature in the game's API to keep track of how much more damage your shield can absorb before it breaks. It also monitors multiple shields if you have, say, Mana Shield and Power Word: Shield on at the same time. The shield with precedence (which one takes damage first) is what is shown on the bar and an icon is displayed showing which shield is taking damage. When the first shield is lost, the bar switches to the current value of the second shield, and the icon and bar color change accordingly.

Do you use an addon to keep track of herbs/ore/etc. on your map like Gatherer, Gathermate, a Cartographer plugin....? Have you ever looked at that sea of icons on your world map and wondered what the best way was go through the zone to check all of the nodes when farming? How about if you were just looking for one type of ore/herb? Routes will trace the best path for you to take when looking for all nodes or just certain types (like the above screenshot). You can optimize a route to make it efficient, and any newly discovered node will be added to your route. You can customize the look of the lines (which can appear on your minimap and zone maps as well) and you can set your route to ignore certain areas of the map. Have TomTom installed? You can set it to follow your route.

Read more about it and download it here.

The Collector:

Are you eying those achievements for gathering mounts and pets? Or do you just love collecting them? If so, then check out The Collector. It lists what mounts and pets you are currently missing, and displays how far along you are to having them all in your possession. It also takes into account what mounts/pets are accessible to you based on your faction, class, and profession.

To find out more about it, see its download page.

Okay, so the 3.0 patch hit and you either frantically started updating your addons, fighting with server traffic, or you hung back for a couple of days like me and got everything in due time. There are probably still some mods you haven't found updates/replacements for, and you may be wanting some new addons for the additions to the game. For the first, check out our Survival Guide if you haven't yet or post on the forums with your questions. For the latter, here are some addons that deal with new features in WoW 3.0.

Calendar Export:

While this doesn't do anything for you in-game, it does allow something very nice for the new in-game calendar. This addon saves your guild's calendar data in a format which allows it to be exported to other calendars outside of the game. Using Google's Calendar Converter (linked on addon's download page), you can convert this addon's saved variables to iCalendar format. Thus allowing your guild to view it on Google Calendar online, in Rainlendar on your desktop, in Microsoft Outlook, and any other application that uses the iCalendar format. If you use Google Calendar, you can then embed the calendar on your guild's website.

Reading through the comments again, it looks like there have been some API changes that have changed how some data is retrieved from the calendar. The author is working to address this, so if this mod doesn't work 100% for you, keep an eye on it (you can add it to your favorites to see when it gets updated). You can read more and try it out yourself here.

Inscription Trainer Class Icons:

This addon adds class icons in front of their respective glyphs in the Inscription Trainer window. Helpful if you are trying to pick and choose what you learn to save money, or if you want to be able to see when you can pick up that next mage glyph.

Read more about it on the download page.

PetList+:

Wish to see at a glance which mount/pet is which without inspecting icons for color differences or hovering over them to read tooltips? This addon changes the window to show names of all mounts/pets in an alphabetical, scrollable list, as well as displaying the model of the pet/mount chosen (it's even zoomable with the mouse-wheel). A new feature is that it adds a button to the pets tab to randomly summon a pet for you.

You can get it here.

UrbanAchiever:

This addon is a replacement for the new achievements window. It allows you to search through achievements, statistics, and criteria, and also allows you to sort achievements in various ways. The different window design allows you to see more information at once, and you can even see how far along other people are at their achievements.

Read more and download it here.

CursorCastbar is a cast bar and global cooldown bar that encircles your cursor. It was designed for click-casters, who may not have their eye on the lower portion of their screen much. It's also a pretty cool concept that is catching the eyes of users that like things a bit different from the norm.

To read more about it and try it yourself, see its download page.

GuildBB is an in-game message board to share information between guild members. Messages are sent between users of the addon, and even if you are offline when a message gets posted, your copy of GuildBB will receive the message when you next log in. GuildBB is currently in beta, and currently only supports a max of 14 posts, but it is something to keep an eye on as it develops. This would be a good mod for a guild with no web site.

LibDataBroker (LDB) is a library which many data plugins and display mods are using now. What it does, is allow the user to display these data plugins on whichever display they choose. Think of it this way: if you want to use FuBar_ExperienceFu, then you would view it on FuBar, if you wanted to use Titan_Quests, you would view it on Titan Panel. But if you wanted to use a plugin written with LDB, you can use it on any display that supports LDB plugins.

What does this mean for users? You are free to use whatever display you want that matches your user preferences and UI style.

What does this mean for authors? You don't have to support plugins for multiple display mods. It also means that if you want a launcher, minimap button, or FuBar/Titan plugin for your addon, there's isn't much code required and you don't need to embed tons of libraries that the rest of your addon doesn't need. LDB is very small, and the other two libs are also very small (and are even already included with Ace3 if your addon uses it). If you are an author and want to learn more about how to use LDB in your addon, read here.

What plugins are available for Data Broker? Check out the Broker download section on this site to see what's available. Some addons also supply Broker plugins natively, and you may find more on other addon sites. If you wish to use a FuBar plugin with an LDB display, there is a "hack" plugin (termed a "hack" because it may not work 100% for all plugins) called FuBar2Broker (located on wowace.com).

What display mods are available for Data Broker? Several are pictured above. They range from FuBar-style bars, to blocks that you can stick together any which way, to quick-launch buttons that expand when you click them to show all plugins. Some displays, like Tekkub's MakeRocketGoNow, are only geared towards LDB plugins that are launchers only - this means that they are only designed to do something (like open a config window) when clicked. Titan Panel supports LDB plugins also, and if you wish to display them on FuBar, there is Broker2FuBar (another "hack" plugin, also located on wowace.com). Displays can be found in the Broker download category or on other addon sites.

Some of you may have heard the news already, but some of the devs over at PopCap Games enjoy playing WoW, and have released an official version of Bejeweled as a WoW addon. Play three different modes, compete against your friends/guild for high scores, and level up your Bejeweling "tradeskill". If you haven't heard of Bejeweled before, you've been missing out on an addictive game - which can now be found *inside* another addicting game..... :D

This addon displays a meter on your screen that can show a variety of statistics from latency to threat to dps. There are several different skins, and you can have up to 3 on your screen at once. For those who like the dashboard-style UI, having this would lend more to the dashboard feel. ;)

Sunn - Viewport Art (or SunnArt) makes its way to WoWInterface along with all of its art packs. If you have been looking for some art for your UI, and eePanels2 or kgPanels look too daunting, then go give SunnArt a try. It comes pre-packed with 4 skins and there are additional art packs for download. You may have the one panel at the bottom, or even have a top and/or side art panels. It also has a built-in viewport, so that you do not lose any viewing area behind the art. (Viewports resize the rendered area - think of it like watching a wide screen movie on a full screen tv.) And if you are graphically gifted, you may create your own textures for SunnArt to use.

To read more about Sunn - Viewport Art and to see its art packs, click here.

eXPeritia is a new experience bar addon, which doesn't look like any other that I have seen before. It has a minimalistic look to it, and can hide when you are not gaining experience. It will show you how much xp you gained with the last kill/quest, and also keep track of how many more kills/quests you need to level at your current rate. I am very picky of what my xp bar looks like, but I had to try this one out when I saw it.

To read more, or download it yourself, see here.

I just noticed that this is the 3rd mod of Cargor's that has been a PotW in as many months. Kudos to your ingenuity. :)

Have you ever wondered what quest an item in your bags was for? How about seeing some mob and thinking you had a quest that mentioned them, but you don't remember what it was? Check out QuestQuery. This addon allows you to search through your quests by using the /qq slash command. You can search through quest titles, descriptions, objectives, zones, and whether they were failed/completed, are dungeon quests, etc. As a bonus in my book, clicking on a result in your chat window will open your quest log to that quest.
